22 Aug President’s Message – September 2025
OH MY!! It’s already mid-August and schools are in session, but it still feels like summer with lots of humidity and scorching temperatures!!! I’m ready for Fall with its cooler weather and breath-taking colors!!
Our August program featured Joanna Stephens who displayed four antique quilts from the Carnton Plantation. She shared a wealth of information about these quilts that were made during the 1800’s. The guidelines for caring for antique quilts can also apply to our own treasures. A lasting impression for me: none of these quilts had a label identifying the maker. This should be a wake-up call to each of us as to the importance of a label. In a hundred years or so, when we’re looking down, watching one of our quilts being displayed, we want that well deserved recognition 😊. The icing on the cake was our member Show n’ Tell of “antique” quilts. It was outstanding – a great addition to the program. Thank you to all for your participation!!!
September should be a fun meeting as we travel vicariously with Guild member Kathleen Hardin. During the year, she and her husband travel many miles in their motorhome, and this past year she recorded that adventure for us. I wonder how many quilt shops she discovered along the way? If you are a committee chair, please plan to stay for a brief Executive Committee meeting, immediately following the September 9 general meeting.
The Williamson County Fair has already come and gone. Oh my golly, I still haven’t heard, but I bet that the number of attendees was record breaking!! As usual, the Quilt display was outstanding. Many thanks to Guild members for your tremendous help, and a giant THANK YOU to Connie Little and Valerie Curtis for your excellent leadership in managing the quilt exhibit and guiding the volunteers. I can’t imagine the number of hours that you two ladies put in during Fair time, but I know it’s a lot!!! Thank you!! If you are one of the talented ladies who won a ribbon for your quilt, please bring it to our September meeting for Show and Tell. We want to celebrate your accomplishments!
As our year winds down, continue to think about how you want to contribute to our guild next year. Maybe you want to serve on the Board. Maybe you want to chair or join a committee. The list is endless; there’s always something for everyone. With that being said, my UFO Group is going to continue meeting at the Williamson County Library in 2026. If you have a pile of UFO’s and want to join the group, let me know and I’ll add you to my list.
We had two “Outta Your Box” ladies share this past month. Susanne Winnett made a stunning paper-pieced project that began two years ago during a class taught by Jeanette Sanford. Lin Stricker shared her beautifully appliquéd quilt using bright, bright colors – not her norm , as she usually sticks to Civil War – type fabrics. Fabulous job ladies!!!
I’m looking forward to our September meeting, which will be the second Tuesday, September 9, due to the Labor Day holiday.
Stay cool, see y’all September 9th……Keep on Quiltin’………Lots of Hugs, Joyce
