19 Aug Roles of President and Treasurer

In a few months our Nominating Committee will begin assembling a slate of 2027 officers for us to vote on at the November meeting. If you joined CVQA to make friends and contribute to our philanthropic work, serving on the Board can help accomplish both goals. Over the next few newsletters, we will highlight the various Board positions to help you choose where your skills can help meet the guild’s needs.

Board members come together monthly (usually in person) for a Board meeting that is separate from the General meeting. Board meeting dates are set by mutual agreement and are often hosted by the President in her home.

So far, we have covered the roles of our First Vice President, Second Vice President, Membership Co-chairs, Recording Secretary, and Communications Secretary. This month we will focus on the roles of President and Treasurer.

The President manages the Guild’s business and affairs. She chairs the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee*, and presides at all general meetings of the members and the Board of Directors. In the Fall she chairs a meeting of the Executive Committee to begin planning for the upcoming year. She may reschedule meetings as necessary. The president writes an article for the monthly newsletter and has signature privileges on the Guild’s checking account.

*The Executive Committee is made up of committee chairs and the Board of Directors.

The Treasurer manages the financial affairs of the Guild. She maintains our bank accounts, which means she balances our checkbook; deposits funds received from membership dues, workshop registrations, etc.; pays bills; and keeps a record of receipts and disbursements in the QuickBooks computer program. Using QuickBooks, she prepares quarterly income statements and an annual budget, which is presented to members in November for their approval The Treasurer is also responsible for keeping copies of all contracts and tax-related forms, filing tax forms in a timely manner, and maintaining the Guild’s “non-profit” status. Recently the Treasurer also has served as Equipment Chairperson, maintaining a list of items owned by the Guild and who has possession of them.
