At the historic courthouse in Franklin on September 22, our precious Pat McMahon was presented this beautiful plaque from the Veterans Treatment Court and the local American Legion post. It was a beautiful afternoon of honor for many veterans at the 10th anniversary of the Court, which culminated in the presentation for Pat, and she got a standing ovation! Of course, she passes the recognition on to all the quilters who make the Quilts of Valor, but without her faithful leadership and organization, we would not reach the hundreds of veterans...

I was at the CVQA retreat in September and it was wonderful. So many talented people and so many helpful hints! I made seven pillowcases and two tops! We have multiple presentations in the next few weeks. There are so many ladies working hard to assure our veterans know they are appreciated. A special thanks to Cathy, Pam, Sandy, Jan, Kathleen, Eileen, Janice, Colleen and all the others that work so hard on this committee. I couldn't do it without all of you. It is the ladies working so hard who...

August was a busy month for us. At our guild meeting we received 12 completed pillowcases, 6 completed quilts and 12 completed tops. Thank you, ladies, for all your hard work! And that’s not all: On August 9 Jan Edleson spearheaded a presentation of ten quilts at the Hometown Heroes program at the Williamson County Fair. In the photo below you can see nine of the veteran recipients with the two Old Glory DAR members who presented the quilts. And you can read more about the presentation in an article from...

We presented two quilts on July 14. I have picked up four bins of fabric donated to QOV by one of our veterans who is moving to assisted living as his wife has Alzheimer’s. He has a lot on his plate, as he needs to sell their house, conduct an estate sale, and handle moving their furniture. I am going through the fabric, measuring it, and will be sharing some with others in our guild as a lot of it is not patriotic fabric. At our August meeting I will have about...

Once again, we have so many people to be thankful for! Carol Stankewicz brought us a bunch of labels for our quilts. She does a great job of making them. A couple of folks who make their own quilts needed some labels, then I took the others to the center for Pam DeLong to use when she puts the quilting sets together. Lin Stricker needed labels for two quilts that she had made the tops for and will also quilt them for us. Eileen Sherrill also needed some labels for...

Well, this has been an interesting month. First, we now have two more members to participate in our committee: Kathleen Hardin and Pam Vadasz. Welcome and thank you! Some of you may remember a presentation we did at one of our quilt shows at St. Philip. The recipient was Jimmy Thompson, USMC. Jimmy has passed away and his wife called me to come see something she and a friend had done. I went and got to see a “barn quilt” block they had made from Jimmy’s QOV. It was a block...

What a month we have had! At our April meeting, QOV was given a donation of $1,000 presented by Simonne McElhiney, Commandant of our league, on behalf of the local non-profit Marine organization (photo below). On March 24, Pam and I presented to a Marine and then went to Vet Court and presented to a vet with 20 years of service. We also got to visit with some of the mentors and the judge, so it was great. On April 4, Pam and I presented to a 97-year-old WWII vet....

Things are moving along with Quilts of Valor! · On Feb. 24, Pam and I presented a quilt at Vet Court. · Shirley Garth made and presented a quilt to her sister and is now the favorite sister ever! · On March 8, Pam and I attended a meeting of American Legion Post 215 and presented 7 quilts. One of the members had passed away and his funeral was that afternoon, but we still had 17 folks there. It was so nice to see old friends and Willie was still talking about his...

Time is flying but things have been very slow due to the weather. Meetings got cancelled and contacts were slim. I went to the VVA meeting Jan. 13 and had several of the vets tell me how much they loved their quilt but did not present one. The one I was supposed to do fell through due to the vet's health issue. I asked his buddy to present the quilt since it meant so much to the guy. My vet agreed and I asked the members to be sure vets...

What a month (Dec.) this has been, and it isn't over yet. We awarded 111 quilts in 2024 and have at least three more presentations already lined up for 2025. For those who think these quilts don't matter, let me share: I awarded a quilt to my dentist over two years ago, and I had an appointment for cleaning on Wednesday. He thanked me again for the beautiful quilt. Then told the hygienist about getting this beautiful quilt and a pillowcase made of Army fabric. The pillowcase goes with him when...
