19 Aug 2027 Quilt Show Update

The CVQA 2027 Quilt Show is just a little over a year away and we will be ready!

The dynamic Quilt Show Planning Group meets mid-month, usually on Wednesday, at Beth Smith’s or my (Marianne Cooley’s) house. This month Margaret Bearss, Eileen Sherrill, Beth Smith, Sherry Crockett, Rebecca Smeltzer, Susanne Winnett and I, fueled by my mom’s peach crisp recipe, laid out our second raffle quilt using Sherry’s fabulous stash of batiks.

We decided to raise raffle ticket prices to $5 next year; first winner gets to choose from “Barn Stars” or a log cabin donation, now in Eileen’s hands for finishing. The “unchosen” one may go to the auction runner-up, or Silent Auction – still working on those details.

Look for Beth Smith at the September meeting. She will have a “CVQA Boutique Ideas” table at that meeting and forevermore. Come see samples and fill out a notecard (including your phone number) with your ideas for other items we can sell at the Show. Please keep to handmade items—knitting, crocheting, weaving included. Dolls and doll clothes are always popular, and we all drooled over Rebecca’s bandana bag.

Silent Auction ideas: we need ‘em! Tickets for concerts, sporting events, historic sites; rides—hot air balloon, horseback, airplane. Maintenance and other services—personal (hair, spa, mani/pedicures, etc.), vehicular, house. If you have local business connections, we would love to hear from you.

Finally, we invite you to participate in a small-quilt competition, a kind of salute to our home city, Nashville: “ My Crazy Guitar” invites you to create a 12-1/2” x 20” panel (finished size) using applique, quilting, paper-piecing, or any other fabric technique—of guitars gone wild. Guitars as cats, dogs, horses, iguanas, etc., etc.; Strato-catster anyone? or exploding, melting, blasting off, or literally being shredded. Many images of our homegrown stars are copyrighted up the wazoo but a reliable source says old Opryland photos can provide safe inspiration. Again, finished size 12-1/2” x 20” long. We hope viewers will laugh, cry, gasp in astonishment and generally enjoy an off-the-wall take on our famous city.

There are many more parts to this operation, and more members are welcome to join the planning committee (and fun!). At every meeting for a while, I’ll be at a side table for Quilt Show questions and general cheerleading.
