20 Jul Role of First and Second VPs
In a few months our Nominating Committee will begin assembling a slate of 2027 officers for us to vote on at the November meeting. If you joined CVQA to make friends and contribute to our philanthropic work, serving on the Board can help accomplish both goals. Over the next few newsletters, we will highlight the various Board positions to help you choose where your skills can help meet the guild’s needs.
Board members come together monthly (usually in person) for a Board meeting that is separate from the General meeting. Board meeting dates are set by mutual agreement and are often hosted by the President in her home.
So far, we have covered the roles of our Membership Co-chairs, Recording Secretary, and Communications Secretary. This month we will focus on the roles of our First and Second Vice Presidents.
The Second Vice President is responsible for scheduling programs and securing contracts with the scheduled speakers for the upcoming year. This means that in 2027, the Second VP will be scheduling speakers for 2028. She is responsible for working out the details of contracts with guest speakers (mainly fees and expenses for lectures and workshops), securing Board approval, and then giving the Treasurer copies of all contracts. Sometimes the Second VP forms a committee of other members to help with program planning.
The First Vice President performs the duties of the President in the absence of the President. She coordinates all current-year programs, works with speakers to make necessary arrangements, secures locations for guild functions, and enrolls members for workshops. The First VP is responsible for collecting workshop fees and turning them over to the Treasurer. The First VP and the President have signature privileges on the Guild’s checking account.
