21 Oct Community Care Committee
Ladies, you have done it again! We received 26 finished quilts in October and that is a new record for us! We received lots of other goodies as well. Thank you once again for your participation in the Community Care Committee. Before the October guild meeting, we had donated all of our boy quilts, baby quilts, and Owl Buddies. And then you restocked the shelves with all the goodies received at the meeting. Please keep on taking our kits/ projects/ quilts home with you from the guild meetings to meet the needs in our community.
Since the last newsletter:
- We donated 27 quilts to Tennessee Kids Belong (TKB). Pictured is Sarah with TKB taking the quilts on a cart to pile in her car and take to the party they have for the foster kids up for adoption. The kids love the quilts!
- We donated 10 baby quilts to Love on Wheels. As I said at the guild meeting, Alison packed up four of them the next day for the foster families taking care of babies. Now that’s getting things into the community quickly!
One of our greatest needs now is for members to quilt the tops that have been donated. We have a lot of smaller quilts that will be easy for you to maneuver in your machine and a great opportunity to hone your quilting skills. Straight line quilting works fine – no fancy quilting is required! Quilting is the labor-intensive part, so don’t feel obligated to bind the quilt, too – we can hand that job off to the next person. Just be sure to anchor or backstitch your stitching stops/starts, and please trim off any loose threads.
Our workdays are the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Bethesda Senior Center. The next workdays will be October 22 and November 12. I’ll announce at the guild meeting if we will meet a second time in November as the fourth Thursday is Thanksgiving. We start at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. Bring your lunch!
