Community Care Committee

Another great month for the Community Care Committee has flown by! At our July meeting we received 13 quilts, 8 Owl Buddies, 5 totes, 17 pillowcases, and 3 quilt tops. Keep the goodies coming!

Since the last newsletter, we donated 11 baby quilts to Love on Wheels (I mentioned this at the July meeting). Love on Wheels was thrilled to get the baby quilts as they have a need for them. Since that donation, we have donated to Love on Wheels an additional 4 baby quilts, 35 totes, and 30 pillowcases. They also love the totes!

We give baby quilts to Love on Wheels, Graceworks, and the DAR veteran women’s baby shower. Several members have asked about baby quilt sizes. Here are basic sizes you can use as a guideline (all sizes are welcome):

  • Small: 30″ x 40″
  • Medium: 40″ x 40″
  • Crib: 36″ x 52″

As Colleen mentioned, we have a Sew Day for Community Care Committee and Quilts of Valor coming up on August 5 at the Brentwood Library. We will have kits there for you to sew; and of course, you can pick up kits at Tuesday’s Guild meeting to take to Wednesday’s Sew Day. Besides bringing your sewing machine and sewing supplies, I would advise to also bring a cutting mat, rotary cutter, and ruler.

Our workdays are the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at the Bethesda Senior Center. The next workdays are July 23, August 13, and August 27. We start at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m., bring your lunch!
