Community Care Committee

It’s been another great month for the Community Care Committee! We received 17 finished quilts from the April meeting – thank you once again! Since the last newsletter, we have donated 36 quilts to Tennessee Kids Belong, and 11 quilts to DAR for their upcoming service women’s baby shower. We also donated one quilt to Graceworks Ministries for their silent auction fundraiser at the end of April. Pictured are two of the office personnel receiving the quilt (they both wanted to take it home). I don’t know who donated the beautiful top – but thank you! The quilt was exquisitely quilted by Michelle Braisted – a big thank you to Michelle for that contribution.

Thank you for all you do for this committee! Here are a few tips to keep in mind with your donations: When you donate a quilt, please take the time to look it over and trim off stray threads and thread tails. We receive 10-20 quilts at a guild meeting, and we don’t have the time or space to spread out each quilt and inspect it for loose threads. We are counting on you to do that, just like you would on the quilt tops you keep for personal use. Also, if binding a quilt is not your specialty, just give us your quilted quilt without the binding attached. We have members that don’t do free motion quilting and like to bind as their contribution to our committee. As I’m sure you know, it’s very difficult (if not impossible) to fix a binding that has not been applied correctly.

Our workdays are the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. Our next workdays are May 8th & 22nd at the Bethesda Senior Center. We start at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m., so bring your lunch!
