Community Care Committee

Hello guild members. It’s been another exciting month for the Community Care Committee! Here is a summary of our work:

  • We received eleven quilts at the September guild meeting, along with the usual other goodies. Thank you!
  • All of our Owl Buddies have flown the coop this month. 😊
  • Bridges of Williamson County (our local domestic violence center): We donated fourteen pillowcases, eight totes and twelve Owl Buddies.
  • Mercy Community Healthcare:
    • We donated one quilt for the silent auction at their fundraiser happening later this month. Our donation is pictured above. The black/white/gray quilt was designed and pieced by Carol Hooper from a fabric collection that was donated to us. It was then beautifully quilted by Michelle Braisted. Thank you, ladies!
    • We donated fifteen Owl Buddies for their fall festival party for kids. The staff members at Mercy Community Healthcare were totally impressed with the quilt, as well as loving the Owl Buddies.
    • I promised them more Owl Buddies for the Christmas party they host for the kids. So please pick up a couple Owl kits at the October and November meetings. You don’t have to stuff them if you don’t have poly-fil – we can do that for you.

Mercy Community Healthcare provides medical and mental healthcare for those without insurance (and those with insurance!). Cost is based on income. They have full-time doctors and medical staff, all in a new facility at the end of Southeast Parkway. My contact there, Beth, talked about how so many in our community work without medical insurance – waiters and waitresses, musicians, house cleaners, and so on – many more people than what we realize don’t carry health insurance. This facility/organization is a very valuable resource for our county.

Our workdays are the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at the Bethesda Senior Center. Next workdays are September 24, October 8 and 22. We start at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m., bring your lunch!
