20 Jul President’s Message – August 2026

Wow!! It’s already August – well almost! Now is the time to begin planning for 2027: Shirley Whittaker already has some fabulous speakers lined up for next year, and our nominating chair, Marianne Cooley, is beginning to think about nominees for next year’s Board. According to our Bylaws, First Vice President Colleen Cassidy is the other Board member assigned to help Marianne and we need three non-board members to volunteer to be part of the committee. Please let Marianne know if you can/will/would like to help her. Now is also a great time for this year’s committee chairs to decide if they will serve another year. While it is always sad to have ladies step down, it is exciting to gain new talent to fill the vacant positions. And… It is time for all of us to think of ways to make our Guild even stronger than it already is. You’ve heard this before, but it really does “take a village.”

I hope that you enjoyed our July meeting and program as much as I did. What a fun Red, White and Blue Day! Walking in the main entrance definitely set the stage with the wonderful patriotic decor and so many yummy treats. Not only did we have a “normal Show n’ Tell,” but we were honored to have a Patriotic one as well. Oh my, so many breath-taking quilts saluting America’s 250th Birthday! It also was fun to see so many members dressing the part, in their red, white and blue attire. Everyone seemed to join in the fun. It was definitely a friendly and lively group, a day to remember! Thank you, Colleen, for coordinating a fun meeting for all!

I would also like to thank Jill Zollinger for sharing her outstanding “Outta Your Box” project. She designed, quilted and stitched a clever flap to her leather handbag.

Moving on to August: life happens and sometimes plans need to be changed at the last minute. I am disappointed that Beverly McCullough needed to cancel her plans to visit our guild due to a recent death in her family. In fact, she is taking a leave of absence from lectures and visits to quilt shops for the remainder of this year. But as usual, Colleen has risen to the occasion and booked an exciting replacement for Beverly’s lecture and workshop. Look for updated details of the August meeting in the newsletter item below.

This past month has been the perfect one to get lots of sewing and quilting accomplished. With the sporadic rainstorms and the unbearable heat, it’s been a marvelous time to stay inside and complete a project or two! And….once again, don’t forget to read Katie’s article each month where she is highlighting board members’ job descriptions. Be thinking of what YOU can do to enhance our Guild in 2027 🤔
