19 May President’s Message – June 2026

Such a fabulous time of year, I love it! Springtime is glorious, with summer rapidly approaching, and it is a time for many celebrations. It’s the end of another school year, along with graduations – many that have already taken place. Wedding season is just beginning…what a joyful time of year! In a few days, my husband and I (along with a graduation quilt) will be heading to California for the high school graduation of our granddaughter…number eight of nine grandkids. Where does the time go?

We had a fabulous meeting in May when we were able to celebrate our Community Care Committee, along with their leader Karen Bays. In 2017, after being a Guild member for only one year, Karen volunteered to chair the “Charity Quilts Committee,” as it was called then. She committed to serve for just one year; but she has happily and dutifully fulfilled this position for ten years, and she has done a fabulous job! Karen and her committee create and distribute approximately 150 quilts each year along with owl buddies, walker caddies and other helpful items, spreading comfort and joy to less fortunate members of our community. CVQA thanks you Karen, and your superior committee, for a job well – and beautifully – done.

June will bring another great program when we learn all that Pat McMahon and her committee do to support Quilts of Valor. Come prepared for a special morning!

Last month I mentioned how our website and newsletter are becoming more welcoming and valuable tools for each of us. Beginning this month Katie Rawls, Communications Secretary, will begin highlighting Board positions before the nominating committee begins their work a few months from now. Serving on the Board is a wonderful way to make good friends while you contribute to the work of our guild. In the June newsletter, Katie will describe what the Recording Secretary and Communications Secretary do. She will continue for the next few months with descriptions of the other Board member positions. Please be thinking about how your skills might fit best on the 2027 Board of Directors.

At our May meeting we had three ladies share their “Outta Your Box” items. Ellen Levernier shared her quilt with clever and unique stitching, and Jeanette Sanford and Ginabeth Young both shared tote bags from a class taught by Lori Kariott at The Quilting Squares. Great job ladies!!

Show n’ Tell as usual was fabulous! Such creativity – thank you!
