Community Care Committee

You’ve done it again! The Community Care Committee received 19 quilts in January and February. What a great start to the new year!

At our February guild meeting we voted to continue donating baby quilts to Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Old Glory Chapter. They host an annual baby shower for service women and women veterans who are expecting a baby. They provide baby essentials to these women and asked us for baby quilt donations again this year. The DAR’s baby shower is May 17, so think about sewing up a baby quilt in the next couple of months. We also donate baby quilts to Graceworks “Our Little Angels” program. Expectant mothers must meet certain criteria in both of these programs; therefore, donations are not just blindly passed out to anyone.

At our February meeting someone asked how large a baby quilt should be. While we will take a variety of sizes, the “standard” baby quilt sizes are below. Please use them as a guideline. Note that all sizes are smaller than full width of fabric, making it easier to construct and quilt.

· Newborn quilt – 30 x 30 inches

· Small baby quilt – 30 x 40 inches

· Medium baby quilt – 40 x 40 inches

· Crib quilt – 36 x 52 inches

Our workdays are the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at the Bethesda Senior Center. We start at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m., so bring your lunch! The next workdays will be February 27, March 13, and March 27. Thank you for donating your time and talent for our committee and our community!
