By the time you read this message the cold, dull days of Winter will be history, and Spring will be in full swing! I love the glorious colors that are emerging everywhere! However, this year is slipping by way too quickly!! Our April Guild Meeting and Program were enjoyed by 90 members. Such a happy, friendly, and lively group. It was a delight to be amongst them. Julie Silber’s Zoom Program “Keeping ’Em in Stitches, America’s Funniest Quilts” was pure fun and “sew” delightful. Did you happen to notice the quilt...

Our May speaker by ZOOM is Linda Pearl from One Quilting Circle (photo below). She has several interesting lectures, and we have chosen “Ten Quilters You Should Know and Why (Part 1).” In Linda's words: “Did you ever wonder how we came to have all the wonderful tools and materials to work with that we have?” Her presentation highlights changes in modern American quilt making in the past 30 years, and Part 1 will take us up to Y2K. I imagine we will see ourselves in the progression of tools,...

We have a special sale planned for our May 6th meeting! Bring any sewing-related items you would like to donate to the guild for our sale. We have stickers to put on your items if you haven’t already marked them, but ALL donated items need to be marked with even dollars, no change. The CVQA library books also will be available for purchase at the low, low price of two books for $5! Following our guest speaker, guild members will have time to shop these Fantastic Finds and purchase whatever their...

What a month we have had! At our April meeting, QOV was given a donation of $1,000 presented by Simonne McElhiney, Commandant of our league, on behalf of the local non-profit Marine organization (photo below). On March 24, Pam and I presented to a Marine and then went to Vet Court and presented to a vet with 20 years of service. We also got to visit with some of the mentors and the judge, so it was great. On April 4, Pam and I presented to a 97-year-old WWII vet....

[gallery ids="1309,1311,1313,1314,1316,1317"] It’s been another great month for the Community Care Committee! We received 17 finished quilts from the April meeting – thank you once again! Since the last newsletter, we have donated 36 quilts to Tennessee Kids Belong, and 11 quilts to DAR for their upcoming service women's baby shower. We also donated one quilt to Graceworks Ministries for their silent auction fundraiser at the end of April. Pictured are two of the office personnel receiving the quilt (they both wanted to take it home). I don’t know who donated...

On April 15 you should have received an email from Cumberland Valley Quilt Association with your 2025 CVQA photo directory attached. Thank you to Peggy Bowker for keeping track of all of our members and their contact information, and to Jill Zollinger for working her magic to turn that information into our photo directory! If your directory did not arrive, check your junk mail folder as that is where several members have reported finding theirs. If you still haven’t seen it, let Katie Rawls know and she will resend it to...

Ooh, Spring is definitely in the air!!!! It’s always a pleasant journey driving along Arno Road this time of year to get to my home. I see clusters of daffodils along the roadside, trees in bloom and sprouting their leaves, and cows and horses roaming in the pastures. It’s such a cheerful time of year with longer days and warmer weather. Although, my husband reminds me that we can still have frost into the beginning of April. I won’t even consider that!! Our March program was enjoyed by 88 members, two...

We are excited to welcome our April 1st speaker, Julie Silber. Julie will be speaking to us at our regular meeting location via Zoom. Her talk is entitled "Keepin’ ’Em in Stitches: America's Funniest Quilts.” Julie is a respected quilt expert specializing in buying, selling, and appraising antique quilts made between 1780 and 1950. She was the curator of the world-renowned Esprit Quilt Collection in San Francisco and the co-author of Hearts and Hands and Amish: The Art of the Quilt. In Julie's words: “Women have always expressed their whole selves in...

Our Ronald McDonald committee is hard at work on the quilt we will donate to the Ronald McDonald House auction. This year’s pattern is Elizabeth Hartman’s “The Bunny Bunch.” We’ve distributed all of the bunny blocks and four have already been returned, so that leaves 20 more to go. If you are on the committee, remember that our May meeting is the final date to turn in your block – and sooner is better than later so we can get started on assembling the quilt top!   --   [gallery size="large" ids="1234,1235,1238,1240,1241,1242,1243,1244"]...
