Please note we will NOT be meeting at the church in October. Our October 7th program will be a field trip to visit the home of one of our long arm quilters and learn more about the long arming process. Sign up for the CVQA October Meeting Field Trip by emailing Michelle Braisted by Wednesday, October 1. Eight of our members have graciously agreed to host a field trip visit, but space is limited, and they need to know how many visitors to expect. Please sign up by emailing Michelle Braisted by...

At the historic courthouse in Franklin on September 22, our precious Pat McMahon was presented this beautiful plaque from the Veterans Treatment Court and the local American Legion post. It was a beautiful afternoon of honor for many veterans at the 10th anniversary of the Court, which culminated in the presentation for Pat, and she got a standing ovation! Of course, she passes the recognition on to all the quilters who make the Quilts of Valor, but without her faithful leadership and organization, we would not reach the hundreds of veterans...

I was at the CVQA retreat in September and it was wonderful. So many talented people and so many helpful hints! I made seven pillowcases and two tops! We have multiple presentations in the next few weeks. There are so many ladies working hard to assure our veterans know they are appreciated. A special thanks to Cathy, Pam, Sandy, Jan, Kathleen, Eileen, Janice, Colleen and all the others that work so hard on this committee. I couldn't do it without all of you. It is the ladies working so hard who...

Not too much has taken place since the last newsletter. I have not given out any more quilts this month and will distribute quilts and other items in the weeks to come. If you have finished quilts or projects for our committee, you can drop them off at the Quilting Squares quilt shop. Just let them know it’s for me or the Community Care Committee. We have our work days on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Bethesda Senior Center on Bethesda Road. HOWEVER, I am cancelling...

OH MY!! It’s already mid-August and schools are in session, but it still feels like summer with lots of humidity and scorching temperatures!!! I’m ready for Fall with its cooler weather and breath-taking colors!! Our August program featured Joanna Stephens who displayed four antique quilts from the Carnton Plantation. She shared a wealth of information about these quilts that were made during the 1800’s. The guidelines for caring for antique quilts can also apply to our own treasures. A lasting impression for me: none of these quilts had a label identifying...
